Background Screenings:
To become a driver with Uber, you must first pass two background screening checks; a Criminal Record check and a Driver’s Abstract check. This is the first step to becoming a driver and you will not be able to move forward if you fail either check. When it comes to your Driver’s Abstract check, not every conviction will prohibit you from driving.
To start the process, you will need to upload a clear copy of a current Ontario driver’s license as well as Registration for the vehicle to Uber’s site.
Driving Infraction Policy for Ontario (Excluding Kitchener-Waterloo):
- The driver cannot have a criminal record.
- At least 3 years of driving history must be provided.
- No more than three minor convictions and 8 demerit points accumulated in the past three years.
- No major violations in the past 3 years.
- No license suspension other than those due to unpaid fines or medical reasons.
Driving Infraction Policy for Kitchener-Waterloo:
The Municipality of Kitchener-Waterloo has imposed stricter policies than the rest of Ontario.
- No criminal history.
- At least 3 years of driving history is required.
- No more than three minors and no more than 8 demerit points in the last 3 years.
- No major violations in the last 3 years
- No license suspension in the last year.
As you can see, in Kitchener-Waterloo, you can have no suspension, regardless if they are for unpaid fines or medical reasons.
